Born Not in USA
Project Reflection
During this project I have accomplished many things and am proud of most of my work that I did while making my book, there are many examples of what I am proud of but the things that I did the best on would be taking the time that was given to us and used it wisely. When i used my time I re-read my sentences and then would carefully print and paste them out, I did the same thing with my pictures so I found very nice and pleasant pictures that would be considered for a children's book. Such pictures were funny so that the child found it entertaining and then happy pictures so that the reader was not bored and depressed through the whole book. Also I was very proud of the fact that I did not whip through my work and do just the minimum for the requirements, for example I put in a lot of detail; so that the reader knew the details of what I was trying to describe and talk to them about. While doing this project I was very surprised about the different life styles that there were in each different country in South America, in my country which was Bogota, Colombia the area was extremely different than where I really live. It seemed like there were much more poor people and if you lived there then it was a battle to keep a living for your family. Because of this it was very challenging for me to try and make my character to seem non wealthy and poor but because I was so accustomed to writing about my life and a "normal" life to say was very different. This also relates to the Habit of Heart and Mind that I used for it was perspective because I had to find the casual perspective of a boy who lived that I had studied on for so long and hard, and this helped me design the whole thing because it allowed me to find all of the importance that I had to include of my characters life. If I could have the opportunity to redo this project I do not believe that I would change very much except I might change my front cover because I did rush a little on that so I could change it to make it much more beautiful and more appealing to the audience.
Del Alma Exhibition Reflection
As a class we all went to the Park Elementary school that is downtown to present all of the books that we had created and read them to some children that were either very fluent in Spanish or wanted to begin learning Spanish. So in groups of three we went to each child and would take turns reading our books, after each student had read their book the listener would then choose their book of choice that was either Spanish or English and would have a student read that to them. As we read our books to them we would make sure that they understood what was happening and what we were talking about in each book. This experience was very interesting to me because I do not read to children or to anyone at all so it was nice to see children understand what I was saying and for them to laugh at the funny parts. Also it was very nice how most of them were very nice and calm so they were patient with what we had to say to them and they would answer what we asked them very politely, so all of this made the whole experiance very fun and interesting and a real exiting challenge in the end.
